Heavenly Delusion (Japanese: 天国大魔境, Hepburn: Tengoku Daimakyō, lit. ’Heaven Grand Makyō’) is a captivating Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Masakazu Ishiguro. Serialized in Kodansha’s seinen manga magazine Monthly Afternoon since January 2018, it transports readers into a world where the boundary between heaven and hell is starkly defined. Inside fortified walls, youths are nurtured in a nursery-style environment overseen by robots, providing a semblance of paradise. However, beyond these confines lies a desolate wasteland where supernatural beings reign supreme, contrasting sharply with the sanctuary within. Protagonists Maru and Kiruko venture forth into the ruins of Tokyo in search of an elusive paradise, confronting the harsh reality that their dreams may be just that—an unattainable illusion. The manga has also inspired an anime television series adaptation produced by Production I.G, which aired from April to June 2023, captivating audiences with its intriguing premise and richly developed characters.
